Eagles' Heritage Golf Course declared open by the Commander of the Air Force
The 5th  Golf Course in Sri Lanka “Eagles’ Heritage Golf Club” was declared open today (Sunday, 26th January 2014)  by the Commander of the Air force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Anuradhapura.

Adding to the growing list of golf courses around the country, this nine hole golf course, which has its own fully fledged club house, is the SLAF’s second course, the first being the Eagles’ Golf Link at China Bay. The Eagles’ Heritage Golf Course with its lush green fairways in the distant corner of the Sri Lanka Air Force Base at Anuradhapura, is owned and maintained by the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The making of the golf course was a slow painstaking task which came about by the untiring efforts by the officers and men of SLAF Base Anuradhapura who were greatly assisted in their task by the Directorate of Civil Engineering. This venture is part of the SLAF’s development and efficient use of land around air fields which need to be maintained, and cannot be otherwise utilised for infrastructure development, due to the need for safe aircraft operations.
This Eagles Heritage Golf Course, which makes efficient use of the land, poses new and unique challenges for the golfer with water hazards, sand bunkers, rough areas and doglegs which will surely make an enjoyable game. The view from the teeing grounds is outstanding and breathtaking. A walk along the fairways which run along the runway of the Air Base, will take one over rising and sinking carpets of green, traditionally designed arch bridges and under cozy shades of garden hedges which have been grown over.

Situated at the beginning of the first tee and aesthetically designed to appease the golfer who seeks relaxation, is the Club House, which offers a unique sense of natural beauty and heritage culture.  The quiet environment, which surrounds the club house and swimming pool, offers a unique and novel respite from the hard work on the course.

The Eagles’ Heritage Golf Club, which was opened by the Commander of the Air Force today, offers the growing community of golfers in Sri Lanka an unique opportunity to experience the country and its beauty-truly in style.

The Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Kolitha Goonathilaka, Director Operations Air Vice Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala, Director Aeronautical Engineering Air Vice Marshal Jayanath Kumarasiri, Director Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Air Vice Marshal Rohan Pathirage, Air Commodore Sudharshana Pathirana, Air Commodore Sagara Kotakadeniya, Base Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Anuradhapura Group Captain Sampath Thuyacontha  and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
